Subaru ceases operation of industrial products business after 66 years

Effective September 30, 2017, Subaru ceased production and sales of its general-purpose engines and generators.

Since commencing production of the 540cc M6 engine in 1951 at its former Omiya Plant (Omiya Fuji Industries Co., Ltd.), Subaru’s industrial products business operated for over 60 years, and received high recognition for its power sources that help build the foundation for livelihoods around the world. The business sold and manufactured general-purpose engines for use on construction, industrial and agricultural machinery, high-performance engines for use on snowmobiles and off-road vehicles, and finished goods including generators and pumps. However, as of November 2, 2016, Subaru announced its decision to cease operations of its industrial products business for more efficient allocation of its management resources toward enhancing the competitiveness of the automobile business.

Moreover, Subaru’s affiliate in charge of industrial products will continue to provide after-sales service for general-purpose engines and generators.
