Yamaha announced that it has started construction of the AC50, which will be used by its official partner Softbank Team Japan at the America’s Cup.
Some portion of the hull is being built by Yamaha’s Gamagori plant in Aichi Prefecture. On August 8, the production location was officially released to the press.
Previously, each team developed and built its own boats in absolute secrecy but for the 2017 America’s Cup, each will use the same design and the process of construction is open.
The bow of the AC50 will be built in Japan by two technicians from New Zealand. After the bow is completed as a racing AC50 in New Zealand, it will compete in races and then be sent to Bermuda.
