Nissan to compete in Formula E all-electric racing from 2018

On October 25, Nissan Motor Corporation announced that it will compete in the 2018 FIA Formula E racing championship, becoming the first Japanese automaker to enter this world-class EV race.

Established in 2014, the Formula E is a global racing series involving various teams and manufacturers who compete with all-electric powertrains on street circuits set up in major urban centers around the world. With the popularity of EVs accelerating in Europe, the market’s major automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Porsche are getting involved in Formula E one after the next.

Formula E’s fourth season will be held between this December and next July with stops in major urban centers such as Hong Kong, Berlin, Paris, New York and Montreal. Nissan will compete in the racing series’ fifth season, which is scheduled to commence in late 2018 with the introduction of new chassis and batteries.
