On June 20, Suzuki announced that it had signed a 2-year factory rider contract with Moto2 class ranking top driver Alex Rins. Suzuki will race in the MotoGP in 2017 and 2018 with Rins and Andrea Iannone.
Rins is 20 years old and was born in Barcelona, Spain. He ran his first race at seven and made his Moto3 class world championship debut at 16. After eight victories in three seasons, he stepped up to Moto2 class. With ten podiums, three pole positions and two victories, he won Rookie of the Year in his first year. This season he has already scored two wins and currently leads the points standing after seven rounds.
