The CR-Z GT, a machine that was created in the hybrid racing car era, had its last run at the 2015 Honda Racing Thanks Day held at the Twin Ring Motegi on December 6. Many fans came to watch its last run. The Prius GT, its hybrid car rival, also announced its retirement on November 11.
The CR-Z GT had participated since the middle of the 2012 Super GT Season. The #16 MUGEN CR-Z GT and the #55 ARTA CR-Z GT were the two entries in the 2013 season. The #16 made a brilliant record of nabbing the pole position six times and winning the championship four times.
On this day, Shinichi Takagi and Takashi Kobayashi (drivers of the #55), Daisuke Nakajima, Tomoki Nojiri, and Hideki Muto (who was also involved with the development of the CR-Z GT) have said in an interview: “Unveiled in Twin Ring Motegi, it had continued to race until now. It was truly deeply moving,” they said as they talked about their memories.
Many fans bid their farewell at the parc ferme, where the event ended.
