Japan’s Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (APEC) has once again formed the “Pikes Peak EV Challenge Committee” in preparation for entering this year’s Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb where it will compete as “Team APEV with Monster Sport,” which will be held in the US state of Colorado from June 22 to 28.
Since its first entry into the Hill Climb in 2012, this project aims to help protect the environment and spread the popularity of electric vehicles. The second phase, which begins this year is based on accomplishments from the first phase during the period 2012 – 2014, has as its goal to achieve the first overall victory. APEC is starting this second phase with the introduction of a new electric vehicle.
This vehicle is the 2015 Tajima Rimac E-Runner Concept One, a completely new model with a new chassis and power train. Built as a collaboration between Tajima Motor Corporation, SIM-Drive and Croatia’s Rimac Automobili, it’s the world’s first 1.1 megawatt EV. It can achieve 0-100km/h acceleration in 2.2 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 270kim/h. Once again, tires are supplied by Singapore’s Giti Tire, which will provide dedicated tires tuned and developed for 1.1MW.
The driver will be APEV’s Pike’s Peak legend Nobuhiro Tajima.
