Gazoo Racing launches program to help develop young drivers

Toyota Gazoo Racing has launched the Gazoo Racing Challenge Program, a new program to support the development of young drivers throughout the world. It began accepting participants on February 19.

Starting in 2014, the Gazoo Racing Challenge Program offers a number of different categories for car enthusiasts participating in motorsports events. Toyota, which is returning to the WRC in 2017, has launched this support program, which is new for the rally field. Its aim is to support the growth and development of young drivers.

The new program is aimed at ambitious young drivers age 26 or younger who want to participate in official JAF races regardless of their rally experience. The program narrows down all applicants using their paperwork and driving skills to two finalists who then become its chosen development drivers.

Participants will learn racing skills through hands-on experience at races in various countries together with WRC 4-year champion Tommi Mäkinen. The program also plans for them to participate as Team Gazoo Racing drivers in championship races all over Japan from the middle of 2015.
