On March 30, Yamaha announced that its full-size sport bike the YZF-R1 has won the world renowned Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 award.
Yamaha has won an award each year since 2012 for its products. This is the third design award for the YZF-R1 after the 2015 Good Design Award and 2016 iF Design Award.
The Red Dot Design Award is an international product design prize awarded by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Wetsfalen in Germany. It awards companies for their product design in three categories, Product Design, Communication Design and Design Concept.
The YZF-R1 is a super sport bike developed using the same ideas as the YZR-M1 as a model that could run on a high-speed circuit race. It gets its image from the YZR-M1 and also innovates with the “Speed Racer” concept to create a design that’s totally new.
Yamaha’s 242 Limited S sport boat also received honorable mention.
