On March 28, Yamaha announced that its India subsidiary India Yamaha Motor Private Limited won the India Design Mark (I Mark) for its Saluto motorcycle and Fascino scooter. The award is given by the India Design Council and Yamaha has won it every year for the last five years.
The Saluto is a model aimed at families and developed for everyday use. It is user-friendly and offers low fuel consumption. Because many Indian riders ride with family members, it is designed for comfort but also stylish with features such as its plastic tank cover.
The Fascino is India’s first fashion scooter. It is aimed at the trend-savvy youth market. While stylish, it is also designed for functionality with its high level of comfort and storage capacity. It has a high combustion efficiency engine and lightweight body. The result is excellent fuel economy and ease of handling. Aside from the body, other external features that have won this model praise include its vibrant coloring and chrome-plated parts, which give it a premium feeling.
The India Design Council is associated with the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It established the India Design Mark awards to correspond to Japan’s Good Design Award through a partnership with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion. This year was its fifth year. Among 220 applications received, the Saluto and Fascino were among the 59 award winners.
