On February 3rd, Yamaha Motor Corporation announced that the MT-07, a large sports bike, and the JWX-2, a wheelchair electric assist unit, were both awarded the iF Product Design Award 2015. This is the company’s second consecutive win after after last year’s MT-09.
The iF Design Award is sponsored by the Industry Forum Design Hannover (iF), an international organization for design promotion, located in Hannover, Germany. Every year, a design for worldwide use that is excellent in the three areas of communication, production, and conceptualization is chosen.
The MT-07 is a motorcycle that has a balanced cost-performance and fashionable style that stand out on the roas with its enjoyable riding performance. Despite being powerful enough to run on a daily basis, it is equipped with a manageable engine. Its main feature is its excellent operability borne from its lightweight, slim, compact and stylish body. Since 2014, they have put it on the market in North America and Japan, and Europe.
The JWX-2 is an electric assist unit for wheelchairs that have electric assist compatibility that depends on the load of the wheelchair handrim. This was accomplished by applying the technology of the electric-assisted bicycle PAS. It can be smoothly operated on carpets and large hill roads which are both usually difficult to move in when using wheelchairs. In addition, it can be finely set to match certain conditions such as left and right balance, linearity, responsiveness and assisting ability by using an exclusive software. This unit is also compatible to wheelchairs of various forms.
