The three finalists for the truck category of the 2017 North American Car of the Year (NACOTY) were announced at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, which commenced on November 16 in the US.
Marking the 24th year of the event, NACOTY is awarded to the best vehicle from a list of new models that debuted within a year or are scheduled to debut. The selection panel consists of around 50 journalists residing in the US and Canada.
Until this year, NACOTY consisted of two categories: passenger cars and truck/utility. However, the truck/utility category has been separated, forming three categories: passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs.
The three finalists for the truck category of the 2017 NACOTY is as follows:
Ford F-Series Super Duty
A couple of Japanese models made the cut and will challenge the Ford F-Series, America’s top-selling line of trucks, for the crowning of the 2017 North American Truck of the Year. Moreover, the Super Duty is the toughest and most rugged series of trucks for the Ford F-Series.
The all-new second-generation Honda Ridgeline is a midsize pickup truck for the North American market. The new Nissan Titan heavy-duty pickup is also its second-generation model. Its largest 0.5-ton model was selected as one of the three finalists.
The 2017 North American Truck of the Year will be announced next January at the 2017 North American International Auto Show.
