On July 6, the organizers of North American Car of the Year released the four nominees for the 2017 awards’ truck category.
For the North American Car of the Year, which is in its 24th year currently, around 50 journalists from the US and Canada choose the best car from new cars sold or debuted during the year.
Until now, there have been two categories, for passenger cars and for trucks and utility vehicles. But this year, they’ve decided to split the trucks and utility vehicles into two separate categories, bringing the total up to three.
The nominees for 2017 Truck of the Year are the Ford F Series Super Duty, Ford F-150 Raptor, Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Titan.
The nominees include two big-sellers from the Ford F Series and trucks by two Japanese automakers. The Ford F-150 Raptor is the F-150’s off-road performance grade.
The new Honda Ridgeline is its 2nd generation model. It fits into the mid-sized pickup truck category. The new full-sized Nissan Titan is also in its 2nd generation. The maximum carrying capacity 0.5 ton model was nominated.
The 2017 North America Car of the Year will be unveiled at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show next year in January.
