Prodrive and Subaru announced on June 4 that the WRX STI had achieved the fastest lap time for a mass market car at the Isle of Man TT course.
The Isle of Man TT is a traditional motorcycle held on public roads that’s held each year in the UK. In 2011, Subaru set a new record for a mass market car by running the 60.8km course in 19:56:07 with the Impreza WRX STI.
In June, 2014, the WRX STI set a new record again. Its time was 19:15, which is about 40 seconds faster than the record set in 2011. This time, the speed was 189.1km/h.
This is the third time Subaru has set a new record at Isle of Man TT. The driver again was former UK rally champion Mark Higgins, who also set the 19:15 record in 2014.
The car that broke the record is the WRX STI TT Attack Car, designed in collaboration between Subaru and UK-based Prodrive. Higgins set the new record at 17:49:75, fully 1:25 faster than the previous record. Average speed was a blazing 204.3km/h.
