On December 6, the 2015 Honda Racing Thanks Day was held in Twin Ring Motegi where the special race between Super Formula and Super GT racers took place; a battle that seemed like an actual race came about.
The relay race will have the Super Formula (SF hereinafter) racer turn the baton over to the Super GT (GT hereinafter) racer. This is a battle between drivers that compete in all categories.
The combination of the teams are as follows:
SF REAL RACING SF14 # 10 Koudai Tsukakoshi
GT # 17 KEIHIN NSX CONCEPT-GT Hideki Muto
SF TEAM MUGEN SF14 # 16 Naoki Yamamoto
GT # 100 RAYBRIG NSX CONCEPT-GT Takuya Izawa
SF DRAGO CORSE SF14 # 34 Takashi Kogure
GT # 15 Drago Modulo NSX CONCEPT-GT Oliver Turvey
SF DOCOMO TEAM DANDELION RACING SF14 # 0 Tomoki Nojiri
GT # 8 ARTA NSX CONCEPT-GT Kosuke Matsuura
SF NAKAJIMA RACING SF14 # 64 Daisuke Nakajima
GT # 64 Epson NSX CONCEPT-GT Bertrand Baguette
Just like the standing start of the SF, the cars were stationary when the race began. Koudai Tsukakoshi and Takashi Kogure have repeatedly competed for the top position during the race.
When the SF machine makes its pit stop on the fifth lap, the GT driver will tap the SF machine then boards his GT machine to continue the relay race. The turning over of the baton was done smoothly as they embarked and disembarked their respective machines at the pit just like in a GT race.
The racers in the lead have repeatedly changed in the west straight course and 90-degree corners, but the checkered flag was raised with all of them finishing in a row.
Naoki Yamamoto and Takuya Izawa of Team 2 emerged victorious in this race. This special race demonstrated good relationships between Honda team’s drivers.
