Yamaha returns to World Superbike after 5 years

Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. (YMENV) has officially announced its entry for the 2016 World Superbike Championship (WSBK). This marks Yamaha’s return to the WSBK after a five-year absence since 2011.

Yamaha aims to capture its first championship since 2009 with their all-new YZF-R1 racer driven by current WSBK riders, Sylvain Guintoli (Honda) and Alex Lowes (Suzuki).

Born in 1982, Sylvain Guintoli is a French rider who has over 15 years of racing experience. In 2007, he competed in the MotoGP on the YZR-M1 for Yamaha Tech 3 and in 2014 he was crowned the WSBK champion as the top rider of Aprilia Racing.

Born in 1990, Alex Lowes is a British rider who on his home turf became the youngest BSB (British Superbike Championship) champion ever in 2013. He’s an up and coming rider who began competing in the WSBK from 2014.
