Suzuki launches all-new and enlarged Spacia

On December 14, Suzuki Motor Corporation announced the release of its all-new Spacia mini car, which underwent a full makeover for the first time since February 2013. Suzuki is targeting 12,000 units in monthly sales for the new Spacia series which includes the stylish Spacia Custom.

All models feature a lightweight body due to “HEARTECT,” a next-generation platform for mini cars, a mild hybrid system with enhanced battery performance, and class-leading fuel efficiency of 30.0km/liter (JC08 mode). The new Spacia series is priced from 1.33 million to around 1.9 million yen.

There were some criticisms that the previous Spacia seemed small in size compared with its rivals from Honda and Daihatsu. Suzuki addressed this issue with the new Spacia by raising its height by 50mm and establishing a design that makes the vehicle look larger.

At the press conference held in Tokyo, President Toshihiro Suzuki said, “We made our comfortable tall miniwagons in which we take pride into more exciting vehicles. To achieve this, safety was a priority so we incorporated it with loads of safety features.” While the Honda N-BOX is by far the most successful tall miniwagon on the market, President Suzuki added, “We consider ourselves as a challenger and hope to move a step closer to the N-BOX.”
