Mitsubishi Fuso begins production of Japan’s first EV compact truck, the E-Canter

In July, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus began production of the E-Canter electric compact truck at its Kawasaki plant.

The E-Canter is a compact EV truck that made its debut at Germany’s Hanover Motor Show in September, 2016. Designed to be used for things like urban delivery services, it has a maximum driving distance of 100km. It offers new solutions to the problems of city street noise and gas emissions with as a clean and noiseless delivery vehicle. The E-Canter is the first mass market electric truck made in Japan and it’s set for an official release in September.

The Kawasaki plant is assembling a total of 50 within 2017 for the domestic market. Of those, 25 are set to be used by 7-Eleven Japan. From the end of July, its Europe subsidiary’s Tramagal plant is set to produce 100 for Europe and North America.

In May, ahead of the start of production, Mitsubishi Fuso set up the first EV Power Charger rapid charging equipment for domestic EV truck use inside its Kawasaki Plant.
