Honda shows off new 10th gen. Accord prototype

Honda of America released photos on June 10 showing the R&D prototypes for the next generation Accord.

One of the features of the 10th generation Accord is its downsized engine. The 4 cylinder direct injection engine will come in two different types: 1.5 liter and 2.0 liter.

The vehicle’s transmission is also split up between the two engine types, with the 1.5 liter engine version coming in a 6-speed manual or CVT, and the 2.0 liter variant coming in either a 6-speed manual or the newly developed 10-speed automatic. According to Honda, this new Accord is the first commercially available front wheel drive vehicle to get a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Incidentally, regarding hybrid technology, the car is slated to utilize Honda’s next generation 2 motor hybrid system. American Honda Vice President Jeff Conrad commented that “The car will get three different types of advanced power trains. The 10th generation Accord is the most fun to drive car in the history of automotives. It’s refined, and has excellent fuel efficiency.”
