Mercedes names its first-ever pickup the X Class

German luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz is continuing development on its first pickup truck. It has now decided to christen the model the X Class.

This was revealed by Daimler, a company that has the Mercedes-Benz under its umbrella, at an early February financial presentation. The company announced, “We will unveil the Mercedes-Benz X Class in the second half of 2017.”

Mercedes-Benz has already unveiled the Concept X Class. It has now decided to name the mass market version of the concept car the X Class.

The X Class is being developed under the collaborative relationship of Daimler and Renault-Nissan. It shares some of its basic construction including the chassis with the new Nissan NP300 Navara. Layout and design are being handled exclusively by Daimler. The company plans to produce the X Class at Renault’s plant in Cordova, Argentina, and Nissan’s plant in Barcelona, Spain, where the Nissan NP300 Navara and Renault Alaskan are being built.
