Volkswagen has announced that its Touareg luxury SUV will undergo a model change in 2017. It announced, “We will release a new Touareg in 2017.”
The current model, which was its 2nd generation model, was released in the spring of 2010 at the Geneva International Motor Show. Its maximum weight was at most 200 kg lighter than the original model and it had other major changes.
Seven years after this model was released, the Touareg is undergoing a model change again. It appears to share the same chassis as the new Audi Q7. The new Q7 uses aluminum as raw material to achieve at most 325 kg lighter weight than the previous model. It appears likely that the new Touareg will be even lighter.
