The three finalists for the SUV category of the 2017 North American Car of the Year (NACOY) award were announced at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, which commenced on November 16.
This year marks the 24th time for the NACOY award to be presented to the best new model that was either released within a year or is scheduled for released to the North American market. The winner will be selected by a group of around 50 journalists residing in the US and Canada.
Until this year, the NACOY consisted of two categories: passenger cars, and truck/utility. However, from this year, the truck/utility category has been separated, resulting in three categories: passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs.
The three finalists for the SUV category of this year’s NACOY award are as follows:
The lone Japanese model to make the cut was Mazda’s midsize SUV, the CX-9. It will go up against the luxurious all-new Jaguar F-PACE and Chrysler’s new Pacifica minivan.
The 2017 North American Car of the Year will be announced next January at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, USA.
