Mazda Motor Corporation has established a new trim for its Roadster, labeled as the RF (Retractable Fastback).
Just as its name implies, the RF is a fastback coupe when the top is closed and offers the open-air feeling of the Roadster when the roof is open. The highlight of the RF is the storing mechanism of its hard top, which was made possible from the use of multi-link suspension. And of great interest was its 2.0-liter engine, which was not available for the Roadster in Japan till now.
The RF lineup consists of the standard S grade (priced from 3,240,000 yen to 3,261,600 yen), the mid-grade VS (from 3,574,800 yen to 3,596,400 yen) and the high-end RS (3,736,800 yen). Each grade comes available with six-speed manual transmission as well as five-speed automatic for all grades excluding the RS. The RS, pictured in the photos, comes standardized with Recaro seats, and Brembo brakes are also available as an optional feature.
