Toyota has revealed that it’s building an Initial D model for the Toyota 86. “Initial D” is a legendary comic book and its main character rides a Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. Toyota UK broke the news on June 29 and published a picture of the Initial D Toyota GT86 (Toyota 86 in Japan).
The special model was designed by Toyota UK’s custom car division using special parts. Parts include RS Watanabe aluminum wheels, TRD suspension, Fujitsubo muffler, Cusco strut brace, and carbon fiber hood. Of course, it has a black and white color scheme and “Fujiwara Tofu Ten” printed on the side.
There is already an Initial D Toyota 86 that has run in the Japanese Rally Championship in Japan. There are some changes with the UK model such as the black hood.
Jeff Clifford, who is in charge of the project, said, “With this Initial D concept we not only acknowledge how important the AE86 was in influencing Toyota’s modern approach to sports cars but also demonstrate how the GT86 can be aesthetically and dynamically improved with relatively simple aftermarket accessories. But perhaps most of all, we just thought it was an achingly cool idea.”
