On the Isle of Man TT course on June 4, the Subaru WRX STI set a new lap time record yet again. Mark Higgins drove the 60km course in just 17:49:75, breaking the previous record by 1:25. Its average speed was 204.34km/h.
But that’s not the whole story. On June 6, Higgins decided to make another daring race against the clock. This time, he broke the record he’s set just days ago by 14 seconds with a lap time of 17:35. His average speed was 207.17km/h.
Just for this challenge, Subaru Of America and the UK’s Prodrive developed together the WRX STI Time Attack just for the time attack course. It is based on the WRX STI and designed with technical help from Subaru Tecnica International (STI).
The WRX STI Time Attack has a 2.0L horizontally opposed V4 gasoline engine and gets 600hp with full tuning. With body weight kept at 1,175kg, it can reach a maximum speed of 290km/h.
Subaru commented, “This just proves all over again the WRX STI’s excellent AWD sport performance.”
