Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced that their first test flight for their next generation regional jet aircraft, the MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), test model #2 was successful.
Characteristics of the aircraft were confirmed during the maiden voyage for test model #2 which, after taking off from Nagoya Airfield, flew in airspace over the Pacific Ocean. The MRJ Test Model #2 will, from here on out, be primarily used for confirming performance via test flights.
The MRJ Test Model #1 had its maiden voyage in November of last year.
President of Mitsubishi Aircraft stated that “We are planning to continue with research and development on schedule for subsequent models, acquire certification for the model itself, and push forward towards getting the first production model rolled out.â€
Both companies state they plan to establish a base of operations for test flights at Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake, Washington, USA, work towards speeding up development, and work towards producing the first production unit by mid 2018.
