On May 23, Mazda Motor Corporation announced that it will unveil the Spyder Concept for their all-new MX-5 to the European market at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to be held next month in the UK.
The Spyder Concept made its world premiere last November at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This prototype was influenced by Mazda’s classical, vintage MX-5 (Roadster). The Spyder Concept is a modern rendition of this vintage MX-5.
The striking feature of the Spyder Concept is its simply structured and lightweight soft top. Called the “bikini top,†this soft top was designed by American Sunroof Corporation (ASC), which has years of experience in the development of canopies for convertibles. The fabric was provided by Haartz Corporation.
The Spyder Concept features a cargo weight of 1,044kg, which is around 14kg lighter than its base model (2.0-liter model in North America). The exterior is decorated in Mercury Silver coloring and comes with PRIMA natural leather for the cabin. It also comes equipped with a carbon fiber aero kit and an exclusively designed front grille.
The suspension can be tuned for individual circuits. It comes with enhanced Brembo brakes along with 17-inch Yokohama alloy wheels and 225/45R17 Yokohama ADVAN tires.
