On May 23, Mazda announced that the new Roadster RF would be shown off to the public at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to be held in the United Kingdom in June.
The car made its world premier in March at the New York Motor Show ’16 held in the United States. The Roadster is a member of the Mazda family that has for 26 years continued to protect its theme of being an incarnation of “lots of fun.†While taking on the value of “making the fun of an open top car accessible,†inherited from its retractable hard top predecessors, the vehicle has not become bogged down by established ways of thinking and has continued to challenge itself with innovating.
As a result, the car takes on a fast back style due to having its characteristic sloping roofline that runs down to the rear end, and has created a new sense of openness through its unique rear roof shape that allows for the back window to be opened and closed. In addition to this, the electric roof can be opened or closed while the car is moving under 10 km/h.
Along with its construction that allows for compact and efficient storage in spite of limited space, the vehicle also boasts a fast back style design and the same amount trunk storage with its soft top counterpart model. As for the powertrain, suitable lineups of their SKYACTIV-G 1.5 and SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engines are planned to be made available for each region.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, held in the United Kingdom in June, the Roadster RF will see its first appearance on European soil. The vehicle is planned for release in the UK in 2017.
