Mazda CX-3 Review: “B-segment SUV with improved comfort, a premonition for its comeback in popularity” by Yoichi Moroboshi

The B-segment SUV Mazda CX-3, which has an unusual configuration and is produced only with a diesel engine, has been improved.

This update brings about an improved quietness due to the reduction of the vibration and noise of the engine in all grades with the standardization of the Natural Sound Smoother, the use of a thick plate of glass on the front door, and the like. The suspension damper and stabilizer, as well as the control of the electric power steering and the like, has also been modified.

I went on a test drive with the XD Touring. This was done in the context of a comparative test drive before and after the improvements. I went beyond that and focused on the excellence of the position of the CX-3 in Japan. Despite it being a compact B-segment, the aspect of it being an SUV which allows one to feel playful is a perfect match for the Japanese market. It can be said that the CX-3 is just in the right position in present day Japan.

The changes brought about by the improvements may not be noticeable unless a comparative test drive is done; nevertheless, amongst all of its changes, the enhanced comfort is the aspect that I am most pleased with. The car has gained a quieter interior with the reduction of the engine vibration and the improvement of the sound insulation of the noise. Moreover, with the improvements around the suspension, the car’s flexibility with regards to the road has been enhanced. It has become much easier to use if a bit of oiling is done on the machinery and equipment which has a sufficiently satisfying motion…That was the impression that I got from the movement of the suspension.

Furthermore, I had the impression that the overall performance has become straightforward as the assist amount of the electric power steering has become balanced. I think that it suits people with less skill since the assist amount particularly during ignition and low speed has increased. In my case, nevertheless, I think that the previous setting is not bad at all.
