Scion iM to become part of Toyota Corolla lineup

On March 17, Toyota Motor Sales USA announced it will unveil the Corolla iM at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, which begins on March 23.

On February 3, Toyota announced that it will discontinue the Scion brand in the US. As a result, the Scion iM (the Toyota Auris, in Japan) will be converted to the Toyota brand from its 2017 model. At the upcoming New York Auto Show, the Scion iM will be incorporated into the Toyota Corolla family and unveiled as the Corolla iM.

The production model of the Scion iM made its debut a year ago at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. It is based on the updated Auris, which was launched at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show in March 2014.

It features a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder Valvematic gasoline engine that generates 137hp of maximum output. It comes equipped with six-speed manual transmission with a CVTi-S automatic system available as an option.

The Scion version of the iM will be discontinued within a year. It will soon become part of the Corolla family and help enhance Toyota’s lineup of compact cars in the US.
