2016 New York Auto Show: Toyota 86 has its first major update, its 6-speed MT has 205hp

On March 17, Toyota Motor Sales USA announced that they will unveil the 2017 version of the Toyota 86 at the 2016 New York Auto Show in USA, which will kick off on March 23, 2016.

Toyota announced the abolition of Scion, a vehicle brand for young Americans last February 3, 2016. Because of that, the Toyota 86, which has been sold as the Scion FR-S in the USA , will now be moving into the Toyota brand name. But for the 2017 version that will be unveiled at the 2016 New York Auto Show, it will use the name Toyota 86, similar to Japan.

At the same time, the 2017 version of the Toyota 86 also had its first major update since its debut. As for its front part, it has been equipped with a new bumper that makes its aperture bigger, as well as newly designed LED headlamps and blinkers. It also has new rear LED tail lamps and bumper. Its aluminum wheels also have a new design.

As for its interior, it has new materials called Grand Lux, and it is applied on the dashboard. This material has also been applied to its door trims, and it has a soft texture. Its seat upholstery has also been changed, and it now has a silver color with stitch patterns. Its audio operation switch button has been mounted on its sporty steering wheel.

Its dampers and springs were also retuned. Furthermore, it has also been mounted with Hillstart Assist Control. Its direct-injection 2L horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder gasoline engine now has a maximum output of 205hp for its 6-speed MT. From 20.9kgm, its maximum torque has increased to 21.6kgm. The gear ratio of its 6-speed MT is also being reconsidered.
