World Car of the Year organization revealed the three cars which are the finalists for the 2016 World Car of the Year at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show held in Switzerland on March 1.
The World Car of the Year began in 2005. This time, they will be selecting the best car which debuted from autumn of 2014 to autumn of 2015. As for the conditions, these cars are being produced and sold until spring 2016, and these cars are being sold in at least two continents of the world. In other words, those cars exclusive for Europe, exclusive for North America, and exclusive for Japan have been excluded from the selection targets.
As for the voting process, 74 journalists from 23 countries are going to vote based on six aspects, including the value, safety, environmental performance, concept and the like.
The following are the three finalists for the 2016 World Car of the Year:
The all-new Mazda Roadster is the only Japanese car included in the final selection. It will be contending with German cars, the all-new Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is the successor of the GLK; both of which are German cars.
Furthermore, the seven cars included in the top 10 that were announced in January, which were not able to proceed to the final selection are the BMW X1, the Hyundai Tucson, the Jaguar XE, the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the Mazda CX-3, the Å koda Superb, and the Toyota Prius.
The final results for the 2016 World Car of the Year will be announced at the 2016 New York Auto Show in USA on March 23. The all-new Mercedes-Benz C Class won last year’s World Car of the Year.
