Mitsubishi Motors Corporation held an exhibit at the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon with the theme “Let’s play actively.” The Outlander PHEV rally car (replica) which participated in the cross-country rally called Baja Portalegre 500 was exhibited.
To improve the steering stability, the front and rear tread is expanded and an exclusive front and rear fender is adopted. Moreover, to improve its roadability, the minimum ride height is raised, the suspension stroke is lengthened, and a large diameter tire exclusive for rally is mounted, achieving a powerful styling appropriate for a rally car.
The main parts of the PHEV system adopts mass production equipment, but by changing the control in accordance to the special features of the rally, higher output of the front and rear motor, high rotation of the engine and by the amount of electric power of the generator, a high performance is achieved and the capacity of the drive battery improves corresponding to the high performance. Furthermore, the control of the twin-motor 4WD/ S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) has been changed, the traction performance has been improved, and its height and width have been increased, thereby improving its driving performance.
