2015 Los Angeles Auto Show: Mazda debuts all-new CX-9 featuring 2.5-liter turbo engine

On November 18, Mazda Motor Corporation unveiled its all-new CX-9 at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The current first-generation CX-9 was launched back in April 2006 at the New York International Auto Show. This SUV features a slightly larger frame than the no longer produced CX-7 with three rows of seating. The engine was updated from a 3.5-liter unit to a 3.7-liter V6 system from the 2008 model.

Mazda debuted its first significantly upgraded model in April 2009 at the New York International Auto Show. And, in October 2012, Mazda unveiled its second fully updated CX-9 featuring their new-generation Kodo – Soul of Motion design theme at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, Australia.

The recently launched CX-9 is its second-generation model. It offers Mazda’s latest Kodo design theme featuring a powerful appearance. The exterior length is 5,065mm, 30mm shorter than the previous model. On the other hand, the wheelbase has been extended by 55mm, creating more space for the interior especially in the rear seating.

The power train is a new SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine. This 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline turbo system has been downsized from the previous 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6 gasoline engine. It generates 250hp/5,000rpm of maximum output and 42.8kgm/2,000rpm of maximum torque. The new CX-9 combines exceptional performance and fuel efficiency as a result of reduction to its cargo weight by up to around 130kg from the previous model.
