Nissan unveiled the crossover concept Gripz at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.
The Gripz previously had its world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Inspired by the 1970s Nissan’s finest car 240Z Rally Car, it was crafted by designers from both Japan and Europe. It was designed to be a model that combines the compact Crossover’s ability and practicality, and the sports car’s performance. Its powertrain adopts the “Pure Drive e-Power,” which is based on the technology of electric vehicles (EV).
Equipped with a gasoline engine, the “series hybrid” uses it only for power generation. Although the engine displacement has not been decided yet, it will be mounted with the same drive motor as the Leaf electric car which generates a maximum output of 80kW. The aim is to run 100% through motor drive, once it is commercialized.
