Toyota made the world debut of the new Prius next-gen hybrid at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.
For the new Prius, Toyota has made the engine with its 40% thermal efficiency improvement, the transaxle, motor and battery lighter and more compact. It also aims for about 20% less loss and fuel efficiency of 40km/liter (JC08 mode).
It’s also the first to use Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). In addition to better body rigidity, the power unit, which is placed low and gives a lower center of gravity, improves handling and comfort. The body rigidity is improved about 60%. This improvement and the double wishbone rear suspension offer an improved driving performance.
It has advanced safety features like the Toyota Safety Sense P collision avoidance system and ITS Connect. It also has the newly developed E-Four electric 4-wheel drive driving assistance system for driving on snowy road conditions. It’s the first Prius model with 4WD.
