One of the highlights of the Tokyo Motor Show was the surprise ‘recital contest’ managed by each exhibiting companies in their booths for the event attendees. Those activities include the appearance of Ichiro from Major League Basebell as a special guest in the Toyota press day, a talk show with Toyota President Akio Toyoda and the like.
Also, during the ceremonial visit of Her Imperial Highness Princess YÅko of Mikasa at the end of the launching ceremony, Yamaha Motorcycle Company’s booth welcomed Japan’s Rugby World Cup hero Ayumu Goromaru together with President Hiroyuki Yanagi.
However, even though Goromaru is an employee of the Yamaha Motor Company, he was very busy on that day that he could not attend personally in the venue. Instead, Yamaha showed a photo of Goromaru in his classic pose with his official signature at a huge panel on a large screen. Nevertheless, Her Imperial Highness Princess Yoko, who likes sports, seemed very excited to ‘meet’ Goromaru.
After Her Imperial Highness Princess Yoko’s ceremonial visit at the signed panel of Goromaru, the activity completely shifted with the theme “Yamaha Motor Product Orchestra.” The image of the hero was projected for approximately 10 minutes. Many attendees enjoyed viewing Goromaru’s signed panel at the Yamaha booth, but a staff from Yamaha said, “It isn’t that likeable that one of our employees would stand on the panel”; thus, they have no scheduled presentation until the session on November 8.
Incidentally, the first match of Top League Yamaha and Toyota teams will take place in Mizuho Rugby Stadium in Aichi Prefecture on November 14, 2015. “I was planning to watch the match so I already purchased a ticket for myself,” says Toyota President Akio Toyoda. Rugby football is a popular sport; therefore, it is not surprising that Goromaru’s promotion invigorates the motor show.
