2015 Tokyo Motor Show: FHI’s President Yoshinaga “Subaru vehicles will offer automated driving on highways in 2020”

At a press conference on October 28, Fuji Heavy Industries’ (Subaru) President Yasuyuki Yoshinaga announced its plans of commercializing their automated driving technology for the development of Subaru’s EyeSight ver3 system.

According to this plan, FHI will implement its production models with a highway traffic tracking function in 2017 followed by automated driving on highways in 2020. These stages will also include the possibility of lane changes.

President Yoshinaga said, “We will work to develop this technology with the addition of sensors, and through the use of mapping data and GPS based on the EyeSight.” Subaru’s EyeSight ver3 equipped models already feature tracking systems for highways (under specific conditions) and ranks as one of the best in the world.
