Making its Japanese debut at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show, the new Honda Civic Type R, limited to 750 units in Japan, will be sold on December 7.
The new Civic Type R follows the concept of a “soul-shaking superior drive” and is equipped with a newly developed 2.0L VTEC TURBO. Honda’s unique VTEC combination of direct injection and turbocharger technology result in 310 PS and 400 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Civic Type R to date.
In addition, the aeroynamically-tuned exterior, adaptive damper system, a six-speed manual transmission, and 19-inch high-performance tires enhance the car’s fundamentals – moving, turning, and stopping – pursuing an outstanding driving feel on the circuit and public road alike.
The Nurburgring (Nordschleife) was selected to test the performance of the production model. In the running test that was conducted, the development unit set a new lap time of 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds, which makes it the fastest FF production vehicle to ever exert this sort of high driving performance.
The Civic Type R costs 4.28 million yen and order entry is available in the Honda website. The acceptance period of the order entries is from October 29 to November 23, and it will be determined by lottery if the order entries exceed availability.
