The 2016 Acura RLX Hybrid

Acura launches new 2016 RLX hybrid in the US with loads of safety features

On June 2, Acura launched their 2016 RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD in the US.

The RLX is Acura’s version of the all-new Honda Legend and is the luxury brand’s top-of-the-line saloon. The RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD premiered as its hybrid model back in November 2013 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The RLX Hybrid is equipped with Honda’s exclusive high-performance hybrid system, Sport Hybrid SH-AWD. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD is a hybrid system consisting of three motors including an in-wheel motor in addition to its motors that assist the engine. It incorporates technology from the next-generation NSX.

The RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD combines three motors to its 3.5-liter V6 gasoline i-VTEC engine, generating 377hp of total output. The 3.5-liter engine produces 310hp of maximum output while 37hp are generated from each of the two motors at the back and 48hp from the front. It comes with a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission connected to the front motor. The front motor controls the front wheels and operates as regenerative brakes at low speeds. It comes equipped with lithium-ion for its secondary battery.

The 2016 models that were launched on June 2 in the US are all standardized with Acura’s leading safety technology, AcuraWatch. Acura has also added a surround view camera, a newly developed keyless remote starter, and a heated steering wheel on all models.
