On May 21, Mazda Motor Corporation will release their fourth-generation all-new Roadster.
The new Roadster is Mazda’s sixth model in their new generation lineup, which features its SKYACTIV technology and KODO Soul of Motion design. Needless to say, it’s a lightweight two-seater rear-wheel drive sports convertible.
This fourth-generation Roadster is loaded with a newly developed direct-injected SKYACTIV-G 1.5-liter gasoline engine located behind the front axle, which generates 131ps of maximum output. The transmission is available in either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual that was developed for front-engine rear-wheel drive.
As for the body, Mazda has increased the use of aluminum and ultra-high tensile steel to 71% in pursuit of a lighter and more rigid structure. With a curb weight of 990kg – 1,060kg, the new Roadster is over 100kg lighter than its previous model, offering smooth and comfortable rides.
The cockpit features an ideal driving position for a sports car with excellent visibility, equipment layout with exceptional operability, and pedals that are positioned directly to the driver. The top can be opened and closed easily and is made to withstand all kinds of weather.
In addition, the new Roadster offers outstanding safety and comfort as it comes equipped with Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology as well as its Mazda Connect infotainment system.
It comes available in three grades including the S basic model, the S Special Package with i-ACTIVSENSE, and the S Leather Package standardized with all the features. The prices range from 2,494,800 yen to 3,142,800 yen and Mazda expects to sell 500 units per month.
