Suzuki Vice President Toshihiro Suzuki made three preannouncements during the press conference at the Shanghai Motor Show which started on April 20, 2015.
First, the installation of a newly developed 1.4L direct-injection turbo engine named “Boosterjet”. He announced that after releasing it in the Chinese market, it will also be released all over the world.
The second preannouncement is about the release of models in the Chinese market. Suzuki aimed to sell 500,000 units in a year. To make that happen, they released the SX04 S-Cross in 2013. Subsequently, they also released the Alivio sedan in 2014. Then, they preannounced the release of the SUV Vitara in 2015, its third year.
Incidentally, the Alivio, known as Ciaz in India and Thailand, was already released, and the Vitara was also released in the European market this spring.
Then, Mr. Suzuki made a preannouncement that among the iK-2 and the iM-4 concept cars that had its debut in China, the hatchback model iK-2 will be released in the Chinese market as well. They are, however, still considering to release the compact SUV iM-4.
The press conference made us absolutely understand each points of Suzuki’s strategies to expand their share in the Chinese market.
