Toyota’s updated Auris featuring their new 1.2-liter turbo engine

On April 6, Toyota Motor Corporation released their updated Auris, including its new 120T top-of-the-line model equipped with a 1.2-liter direct-injected turbo engine.

The Toyota Auris is the second model to feature their so-called downsized turbo engine for the domestic market. It follows the Lexus NX200t, which was released in July 2014 with a 2.0-liter unit.

The 1.2-liter turbo engine generates 85kw (116hp) of maximum output and 185N・m of maximum torque, at a wide range of rpms between 1,500 ~ 4,000rpm for responsive acceleration.

Moreover, the 120T model offers the best fuel-efficiency (JC08 mode) amongst the Auris series at 19.4km/liter. Toyota’s Chief Engineer, Shinichi Yasui said, “We were able to achieve the performance of a 1.8-liter engine on the fuel-efficient 1.2-liter system.”

For the Auris, Toyota has also established their safety assistance technology, Toyota Safety Sense C, which follows the Corolla series. The Toyota Safety Sense C comes standardized on the 120T and 1.8-liter models, and is available as an option on the 1.5-liter Auris.
