The new Mazda Miata MX-5, which is set for release soon in the global marketplace, has already nearly sold out most of its preorder program in the Japanese market, where it’s known as the Roadster.
This is according to Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) on April 1. At the same time, it made an announcement that sales were starting in the United States and also mentioned its order status in other countries.
In Japan, the new MX-5 is slated for a June release. A presale order program began there on March 20 ahead of other countries. The program ended on March 30 and by the 27th, over 2,000 orders had already been taken.
On April 1, Mazda North American Operations announced, “Japan’s entire allotment of 2016 MX-5s expected to be sold out with its presale program.” It further said, “U.K. preorders have totaled nearly ten percent of last year’s 2,973 MX-5 sales in the first three weeks of the program.”
The MX-5’s largest marketplace is the United States. MNAO will begin a preorder program of 1,000 Launch Edition models on May 5 and it’s expected to sell out quickly.
