Toyota has made improvements to its Corolla Axio compact sedan and the new version was unveiled on April 1. The price is from 1,464,873 to 2,207,127 yen.

Major changes have been made to the exterior. Following Toyota’s latest design philosophy of “Keen Look,” the exterior has been given a sportier appearance. The front with its expanded lower grille and the plating that connects the upper grille with the headlamps emphasize various features and give it a more modern look.

The new Corolla Axio is the first to use the Toyota Safety Sense C active safety package. The combined use of two different sensors, laser radar and cameras, give it high sensing performance and reliability. It offers a wide array of safety features including Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) collision avoidance support system, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Automatic High Beam (AHB).

For environmental efficiency, it is equipped with the newly developed 1.5L 2NR-FKE high-efficiency low fuel consumption engine added to a 2WD with CVT. It gets 23.4km per liter for JC08 mode. In addition to the Atkinson Cycle used for hybrids, it’s equipped with things like VVT-iE, which help take low fuel consumption and powerful driving performance to a whole new level.

It also has idling stop as a standard feature. In addition to achieving fuel efficiency targets for 2020, it also manages to achieve a 75% drop in gas emissions by 2005 standards. This makes it eligible for the eco-car tax reduction.

The body for the 1.5G grade is 4400mm long, 1695mm wide and 1460mm tall with a ground clearance of 155mm. The interior is 1945mm long, 1430mm wide and 1200mm tall.
