2015 New York Motor Show: Subaru WRX STI Rallycross car

On March 30, Subaru of America announced that it will unveil the all-new WRX STI Rallycross car at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, which begins April 1.

The WRX STI Rallycross is a racing car that was secretly developed with Vermont SportsCar over a period of one year. It will be driven by Subaru Rally Team USA at the Red Bull Global Rallycross and X Games RallyCross.

This all-new “VT15x” features a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine that’s been enhanced to 580hp of maximum output. It comes equipped with a 6-speed sequential transmission and all-wheel-drive. It accelerates from 0 to 96km/h in a mere two seconds.

Compared to its production version, the exterior has been widened significantly. The weight balance, center of gravity, suspension geometry, and aerodynamic performance have all been improved from the VT14x, its 2014 model.

The WRX STI Rallycross race car will make its debut at the Red Bull Global Rallycross on May 31, and compete in the following week at X Games on June 5.
