New Honda Civic Type R becomes the fastest FF vehicle at 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds

Honda Motor Co. Ltd. debuted the commercial model of the new Civic Type R at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show that kicked off in Switzerland on March 3. This vehicle set the fastest lap time of mass production FF vehicles at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.

This was revealed by Honda on March 3. Honda announced that the lap time of the new Civic Type R at Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany was 7 minutes 50.63 seconds. It is the leading time for FF hatchback models.

Until now, the leading French automaker Renault sports held the fastest lap time in mass produced FF vehicles at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with their high-performance vehicle Mégane 275 Trophy-R. It recorded 7 minutes and 54.36 seconds in May 2014.

The new Honda Civic Type R’s lap time, 7 minutes and 50.63 seconds beat the record set by the Megane RS 275 Trophy-R by four seconds.

Honda installed the VTEC turbo, a newly developed direct-injection 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder gasoline engine on the new Honda Civic Type R. It generates a maximum output of 310ps/6500rpm and a maximum torque of 40.8kgm/2500rpm. Its transmission is a 6-speed MT. It achieved the 0-100km/h speed in 5.7 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 270km/h.
