Vice President José Muñoz, who supervises Nissan North America, was interviewed in NISSAN Global Headquarters in Yokohama City on February 27. He clarified that they are aiming to acquire 5% of shares for the pickup truck market with the next generation Titan to be released in the North American market on the latter part of 2015.
He revealed his expectations about the next generation Titan, “It contributes to the considerable profit and number of car unit sales.” He also mentioned, “With the option of three engine types, two vehicle frames, and three cab specifications, we want to expand its segmentation coverage from 55% to 93%. With this, I want to acquire at least a 5% share in North America’s huge pickup truck segment.”
He continued, “We are calling the Titan, “The American Titan”.
This is because for the Titan, America is a very important market. This new Titan will be designed in California, developed in Michigan and will be produced in Mississippi. He also said that its engines will be manufactured and supplied from Indiana and Tennessee, so it has an amazing background story.”
Including the 5.0 liter V8 diesel engine, the next generation Titan will also have the options of V8 and V6 gasoline engines. The body frame has two types, the Titan and theTitan XD. It has three specifications, single cab, king, and crew.
According to Nissan public relations, Nissan’s share in the North American huge pickup truck market is less than 1%. However, Vice President Muñoz did not mention about the specific period of achieving 5% shares. Yet, he mentioned that Nissan is planning to sell 100,000 units of the next generation Titan a year.
