On January 13 at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Honda announced that they are planning to release a VTEC Turbo equipped vehicle to the US market in the latter half of 2015.
Honda made an announcement back in November 2013 that they’ve developed a new VTEC Turbo engine, the perfect direct-injected gasoline turbo for compact and mid-size vehicles. They were built as part of Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology, their next-generation powertrain technology that combines excellent driving performance with fuel-efficiency.
This new VTEC Turbo comes in three types of engine capacities including 2.0, 1.5, and 1.0 liters. The 2.0 and 1.5-liter types are 4-cylinder and the 1.0-liter is a 3-cylinder engine. According to Honda, they’ll determine the engine based on the type and consumer’s demands of the vehicles.
The best part about their 2.0-liter engine is that it’s equipped on the next-generation Civic Type R. Its 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder i-VTEC gasoline engine is turbocharged and produces over 280ps of maximum output.
Honda is building its 4-cylinder VTEC Turbo engine at their engine plant in Anna, Ohio. This engine is scheduled to be equipped on a Honda vehicle for the US market but it’s still unknown which model that will be. Honda said, “It will offer both fuel-efficiency and an enjoyable driveâ€.
