2015 Detroit Motor Show: Toyota unveils new Tacoma, a mid-size pickup truck

Toyota Motor Corporation has debuted the new Tacoma, a mid-size pickup truck at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show on January 12, 2015.

“The Tacoma that was born 20 years ago has sold up to 3 million units as of the present. Also, 75% of these units are still operational. Its quality, durability, and reliability levels have become legendary. As a result, its class and share within this 10 year period have reached 60%.” says Bill Fay, the vice president and general manager of the North America Toyota group.

The body has become lighter even though they increased its body rigidity. Not only is it provided with a 2.7-liter Inline-four engine, but it is also provided with the new 3.5-liter direct-injection V6 engine. They also enhanced the quality factor of the equipment such as the standard Qi wireless charging and the smart key.

The TRD model was also unveiled at the show. By the way, the Tacoma won in the Baja1000 race a few months ago. It is popular due to its toughness and sportiness. Therefore, the TRD model accounts for 40% of the Tacoma’s sales. “The new Tacoma creates a new benchmark in the class.” says Fay who is confident in the details of the new model.
