The 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon was held on January 9. There, Subaru displayed the Legacy B4 Blitzen concept, with its bright red body color.
Chief Kazuya Takahashi, in-charge of the development in Subaru Parts and Supplies head office, said, “It is a concept model that is created with a style suiting the new Legacy using the successive generation Blitzen model as a motif. We aimed for a high quality finish that has never happened in the Legacy up until now, such as putting leather seats incorporating a curved quilt in the interior.”
The Blitzen is a model that first appeared in 1999 as a product of the joint development of Porsche Design Company and Fuji Heavy Industries focused on the theme of pursuing functional beauty. Since then, the development of Blitzen had been done by Subaru lasting up to the fourth generation Legacy.
Regarding their aim to have the Blitzen be the new Legacy, Takahashi said, “The body of the sixth genertion Legacy has been large and it has become a rival for imported vehicles when it comes to sedans of this class. I came to think that if we added a sporty taste to the new Legacy with its serene impression, we will also be able to earn a new spot of interest in the group of users who have plans to purchase imported vehicles.”
Takahashi said regarding its commercialization, “First, we will propose it as a design concept.”, it seems that it will be commercialized depending on the reactions.
